Need something elegant for your next occasion? Try to make it yourself if you have time. It won’t be disappointing. In fact, you might be stunned with the result. It takes the simple freshwater pearl into something fancy and elegant. All you need to do is some courage to start the project. Are you ready?
Supplies:
- A lot of freshwater pearl. If possible, take the lightest one. Otherwise, the finished product might be too heavy to your neck.
- A headband. Make sure to pick the one covered by fabric. It would be great to have the headband of similar tone.
- A needle.
- Thread
- Scissors
- Glue
- Satin cloth
Step 1.
Plan the length of each strand. You can start by cutting several thread with various length. Put the thread on the end of the headband, which should have the longest strand. The part above the end will get shorter bead strand to make layered look.
To make it easier, meet both end of the bead strand and lay them on the floor. It is easier to cut the long thread than adding more beads later.
Step 2.
After preparing the bead strands, you need to stitch it one by one to the headband. Lead the needle go through the front and then to the back. Make sure to tie the knot at the back, so it won’t be seen by others. Repeat the stitching twice.
Step 3.
Repeat the stitching part on the headband, aiming for the gradual length. In the back part of the neck, make a bulk.
Step 4.
While stitching, don’t forget to lead the needle to wrap the width of the headband then slip the thread into the ribbon at the back of the headband. It will help to secure the heavy pearls.
Step 5.
Repeat the stitching process until you cover the whole headband. The rule to check the finished necklace is quite easy: the longest in the front part, then gradual length on the sides and consistent short strands at the back. Check again to make sure there is no “bald” area seen.
Step 6.
The last step is covering the inner part of the headband. With a lot of stitches, it is not appealing to present the necklace as a gift. Cut the satin cloth, enough to cover the inner part. Then apply glue to all the surface and press it to the inner side of the headband.
