You will learn through this tutorial that you can create your own world map pendant with much cheaper prize. You can easily find the supplies all over the house. Let’s see how it is made.
Step 1. First of all, prepare the supplies that will be used for this project. The supplies for this glass map necklace are listed below:
- Map clipping – you can take any parts of the world as your pendant. The project uses State of Illinois map
- Paintbrush and mod podge
- Round bezel with glass cabochon
- Craft squeegee
- Jump ring
- Lobster clasp
- Strong glue
Step 2. This project uses the map of the State of Illinois for the pendant. But you can choose any location in the map that you want to use as the pendant. You can just buy some colorful map and cut the parts of the map that you want. Or, you can just print the map from the file that you search on the internet. If you decide to print the map, use the cheap photo paper as it can hold a sharp image perfectly.
Anyhow, after you get the image for your pendant, take the glass cab and place it on the map. Then, trace the map out using the glass cap and pencil. Remove the glass cap and start cutting the round circle of the map with scissors. When your map image is ready, cover the surface of the image with light coat from Mod Podge.
Step 3. Place the glass cap once again on the coated image. Twist the image around and apply the coat on the opposite side of the image. Then, cut any excess paper that is not coated. Then, to remove any coat from the surface of the image, you need to squeeze the coat out. You can use squeegee for this. But, if you don’t have any, you can use credit card or something similar. Then, let the map dry for about 30 minutes.
Step 4. After 30 minutes, take the coated map and attach the back side of the map into the bezel. You can use strong adhesive glue to do it. Use only tiny amount of the glue and make sure that there is no excess glue dripping of the bezel as it can make the map look bad later on. Just add small dot of glue at the center of the bezel and attach the map.
Step 5. Let the glue to sit for about one hour. Don’t forget to cover the bezel with the glass cab. It will protect your map from any damage. Now, do you like the final look of your pendant? It’s very unique, isn’t it?
